Hello, my name is Samet Kaya. I am a Software Engineering student at Istanbul Gelişim University. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I have been interested in software development and cybersecurity. In particular, as I became more aware of how vulnerable industrial control systems could be to cyberattacks, I wanted to focus on this field. In 2024, I had the opportunity to turn this interest into a concrete project. Under the guidance of my academic advisor, Assistant Professor Serkan Gönen, I decided to carry out my project on a topic more closely related to my professional work within the framework of the “TÜBİTAK 2209-A Research Projects Support Programme for University Students.”

Working with Siemens S7-1200 PLC devices, I simulated attack types that could target industrial systems, including DoS, Man-in-the-Middle, Start-Stop, and Replay attacks. I then developed an AI-assisted system capable of detecting, logging, and analysing these attacks. The guidance of my academic advisor, Dr. Serkan Gönen, was particularly valuable to me in the technical aspects of the project. He made significant contributions by helping me select appropriate cybersecurity methods, design attack models, and develop an academic perspective during the analysis stages. His guidance, especially in selecting the methodology and analytical techniques, helped me proceed on a more solid foundation. During this process, I developed custom Python scripts to monitor network traffic, collect attack logs, and analyse attack types using classification algorithms. I also integrated real-time logging and visualisation infrastructure into my project. Carrying out this project while continuing my coursework helped me develop strong time management skills. Naturally, I encountered some challenges; however, as I worked to resolve each problem, both my technical knowledge and my confidence grew.

As a result of this work, I made substantial progress not only in software development and cybersecurity but also in research, analysis, patience, and creating practical solutions. I plan to apply all these skills in my future academic and professional life.
